The new CEO of San Francisco (Reuters) -intel, Lip -bu Tan, equalizes the leadership team of the semiconductor giant, with important chip groups reporting directly to him, according to a note from Reuters.
Intel also promotes network chief Sachin Katie to be Chief Technology Director and Chief of Artificial Intelligence, according to the note.
Changes in leadership are the first major move under Tan to take the highest work last month to turn around the fans of the Silicone Valley chipmaker after years of problems. The Intel and AI CHIP Group Data Center, as well as its personal CHIP Group, will report it directly to it.
They were watched earlier by Michel Johnston Holtus, who remains CEO of Intel Products and whose work would expand to new areas.
“I want to roll up my sleeves with engineering and products teams so that I can learn what is needed to strengthen our decisions,” Tang wrote. “While Michelle and I manage this work, we plan to develop and expand our role with more details to come in the future.”
The Shakeup of Tan, who promised a more slender version of the historic American chip maker, follows an extended disturbance period in Santa Clara, based in California Intel.
The previous chief left last year after disagreements with his board of directors how to turn the company after years of production and misconduct. The highest challenge is to face the rise of NVIDIA, which has become a dominant supplier of AI chips.
“Slow suffocation” of innovation
Although she acquired several launching AI companies, Intel failed to establish a agreed NVIDIA challenge strategy, and in January delayed her most experience, a chip called Falcon Shores. Developing the new II strategy will fall for Katie.
Tan’s email says Katie “expands his responsibilities to include the role of the main technology and employee of the company. As part of this, he will manage our overall AI product strategy, as well as Intel Labs and our relations with startup ecosystems and developers.”
Katie, who is also a professor at Stanford University, will inherit Greg Lavender, who retires from Intel, according to the note.
Intel is looking for a new government leader, which will also report to TAN, “given the critical importance of governmental issues in a complex global environment,” the Executive Director wrote. The predecessor Bruce Andrews, who worked at the trading department at the then President Barack Obama, left Intel after the US election in the United States.
